One major aspect of game play in Harvest Town is the ability to form relationships with characters.
You can however only currently marry Fay, Lee Yau, and Foxy. Creating relationships and increasing fondness with characters will allow you to progress in the game. You may also get gifts in return while you learn more about the citizens. The NPC's will in return send you gifts per mail and unlock certain events as your progress in their fondness levels.
To check your relationship progress with each villager, go to the order tab and select COMMUNITY tab. It will display the list of villagers and their relationship progress (the number of hearts) they have with you. 'Singles' which means NPC's you can date will have a maximum of 12 hearts to obtain. Where as Villagers that cannot be dated only have 7 hearts to obtain. Each NPC character will reward you with their unique relationship reward reaching a certain amount of hearts.
Sex mechanics
In order to become friends and even romantic partners with the citizens of Harvest Town, you will need to increase your fondness.
Conversation
Fondness is increased by talking to them on daily base and by completing quests they give you from the bulletin board, in the mail, or in person. Once you have reached maximum hearts with a citizen, a message will pop up saying “___ likes you very much!” when giving them gifts. After maximum hearts are reached, you no longer need to give them gifts as this is pointless since your fondness can no further increase.
When receiving a relationship reward from a citizen, it may sometimes take a few days for the gift to arrive. Be sure also that you are at the correct amount of hearts by giving them an extra gift as the journal does not always display hearts properly.
Gift Giving
You can also gift a NPC items to increase their fondness of you. Check out the NPC Gift Table to see which items are their favorites to obtain the max amount of fondness. The quality of the gifted items can also increase the fondness slightly.
You are able to give one gift to each NPC on a daily basis. On birthdays gifts reward you double the fondness. As such be on the look out for their birthdays which can be found by looking at the message board or looking at the community tab at the NPC profiles.
Citizens react differently depending on the present, which results in different levels of increasing fondness.
There are 4 classes of gifts: favorite, liked, neutral, and disliked.

Affinity Quests
Another way to improve certain NPC's fondness (for the moment only Lee Yau, Foxy, Andy Reed, Bill, Lulu and Fay) are trough completing their affinity quests.
Each task will grant you a certain amount of fondness that will greatly boost your relationship with these NPC's and help you to get to 12 hearts, while also reveling lore for the character.
Dating
At a certain level of hearts, you will be able to date the bachelors/bachelorettes and will be able to take them out on dates. At the moment, only the beach, bar and aquarium dates are available. To be able to go on these dates, you will need an invitation letter. A way of getting an invitation letter is by completing tasks from the message board or sometimes you will gain them randomly from making conversation, you can also buy them from the shop. The pink one that costs 120 diamonds can be used for the beach and bar dates, the gold one that costs 180 diamonds can be used for the aquarium and the playground.
There is a chance to gain wedding decorations from these dates, however, the chances will be increased in the future when the other date events are available.
A beach date will grant you an extra addition of +50 fondness available per day as long as you have the invitation letter.
A bar date will grant you an extra addition of +90 fondness available per day as long as you have an invitation letter.
An aquarium date will grant you an extra addition of +120 fondness available per day as long as you have an invitation letter.
Marriage
Lee Yau, Foxy and Fay can currently be married in the game. However the game designers have said that in future content updates they will be adding more available option.
To marry an NPC you have to first reach 12 hearts with them.
After that you have to purchase 7 x Flower bouquet (each costs 50 Diamonds) from the shop. After gifting your bachelor or bachelorette 7 x Flower bouquet you have to gift them a wedding ring which you can buy at the Shop for 1500 Diamonds or gain it from the Wishing Tree in the center of the town.
To complete the wedding you will need the full wedding suit which you can also purchase from the Shop for 999 Diamonds. So all together you will need about 2849 Diamonds and 12 hearts with that NPC to marry them.
